Barbara Ann Schmitt

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved, Barb Schmitt after a long battle with leukemia. Barb lived a life full of adventure and vitality, she was a light in this world. With sadness in our hearts, we find solace in knowing that she’s in a better place. She passed away at 63 years old at her home in Cheltenham, MD.

She was born in Woodstock, Illinois to her parents Charlotte and James Schmitt.

She graduated from Friendly High School in Prince George’s County, MD in 1978.

Barb loved to sing and her favorite karaoke song to sing was Crazy by Patsy Cline. She also played guitar and harmonica. She loved softball and was often named “the best women’s short stop in Southern Marland”. Her favorite place to go for vacation was the Outer Banks, NC.

She had a long, successful career at Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC for 38 years.

She is survived by Denice O’Leary, her two brothers, Gerald Alexander and John Alexander, and her sister Margaret Walsh + family. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Aron Alexander + family, Claire Alexander and Emily Alexander.

We ask for you to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Barb’s memory instead of flowers. https://www.lls.org/
