Mary Virginia Dennis, lovingly known as "Granny," passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 5, 2024, in Maryland. Born on January 25, 1935, in Charles County, Maryland, Mary was a bright spirit from the start, shaped by her education at Charles County Public Schools and her deep love for her family and community.
Mary’s life was a testament to her nurturing spirit and boundless kindness. For many years, she dedicated herself to the roles of housekeeper and nanny for the Logan, Orguhn, and Cresinzy families. In each home she touched, she was more than just an employee; she was a beloved member of the family. Her gentle smile, unwavering support, and warm heart left an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her family was her world, and she found immense joy in the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In her moments of relaxation, Mary found happiness in simple pleasures. She delighted in reading, playing bingo, and sewing, and her love for music brought her great comfort and joy. Mary cherished her morning coffee and reveled in the tranquility of the outdoors. Her fondness for black jellybeans and licorice was a sweet tradition, eagerly anticipated during special occasions.
She leaves behind her children Alfred Young, Barbara Douglas, and Mary Makle, as well as her treasured grandchildren Nakia, Iris, Shadonna, Armbrey, Alfred Jr., and Charmaine. Her great-grandchildren Mikayla, Desmond, Tyra, Kemani, Donald, Terrance, Daionna, Khaniia, Aiyanna, and Kaitlyn were a constant source of joy for her, and her family extends to a host of nieces and nephews who will also miss her dearly.
Mary is reunited in peace with her husband Richard Dennis, her son Thomas Young, and her great-grandchildren Dakria Robinson and Akria Johnson. She is also preceded in death by her siblings Mary Agnes, Mary Geraldine, Charles, James, Francis, Herbert, and Sylvester.
Though Mary’s departure leaves a void that will be felt deeply, her legacy of love, compassion, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her gentle spirit. Rest in peace, Mary Virginia Dennis. Your love and light will continue to guide us, and your memory will forever be cherished.
