Patricia Sue Schaefer, “Mom Mom” a beloved resident of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. She was born in Washington, D.C., and attended Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, where she was raised. Patricia dedicated 45 years of her life to working as a contract specialist at the Naval Research Laboratory, where she made valuable contributions.
In her younger years, Patricia found joy in bowling on a duck pin bowling league, a sport that brought her much excitement and laughter. She was also an avid fan of bingo and took pleasure in participating in the game. Patricia had a deep appreciation for flowers and their natural beauty, often surrounding herself with vibrant blooms that brought a sense of joy and tranquility to her life.
Patricia had many fond memories of growing up on a farm and cherished the opportunity to share stories about churning butter and plucking chickens. Despite growing up during the depression her family was self-sustained and happy. She held a special place in her heart for old music and bluegrass, finding solace and nostalgia in the melodies that resonated with her soul. Patricia could often be found singing along with her favorite tunes.
Patricia’s fondest conversations often revolved around her father and the cherished memories she held of her parents and siblings. She possessed a generous spirit and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her selflessness touched the lives of many and left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known her.
Patricia is survived by her sister, Pamela Sheree Gibbs (Joe),who will deeply miss her presence. Her loving daughter, Deborah Temples, will forever cherish the memories they created together. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Corey Schaefer (Cheri), Dillon Temples (Evelyn), and Alexandra Rivera (Ben). Patricia’s great grandchildren Dexter Schaefer, Maya Rivera, Kai Rivera, Taj Rivera, Grayson Summers, and Paisley Summers held a special place in her heart and brought immense joy to her life.
Patricia was predeceased by her husband, Roger Dean Schaefer Sr., and her son, Roger Dean Schaefer Jr, and her son-in-law William C. Temples. Their loss created a void in Patricia’s heart that she carried with her throughout her life. She found solace in the memories they shared and held them close to her heart.
Additionally, Patricia was predeceased by her parents, Lucius Lansworth Latham and Molly Kate Gibson Latham, as well as her brother, Lucius Gibson Latham, and Gary Lee Latham. The loss of these loved ones left an everlasting impact on Patricia’s family.
Patricia Sue Schaefer will be remembered for her warm heart, her infectious laughter, and the way she touched the lives of those around her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her loved ones. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her husband, her son, and family who went on before her.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Hwy., Cheltenham, MD, 20623, at 1 p.m. for Internment services.
